Let's go thru the science first regarding the efficiency of the pertussis vaccine. Recent published peer-review shows that the pertussis infection has mutated and the vaccine is only affective in rendering the vaccinated asymptomatic carriers of the disease, capable of spreading the infection to the unvaccinated. It is even believed by the scientist who are studying this virulent strain that it was caused by the vaccine.
Evidence the current pertussis vaccine does not protect the vaccinated from becoming infected with the disease. They just become asymptomatic carries of the disease, spreading it to the unvaccinated.

I think we should set aside the vaccine's safety for now. But I will note that this vaccine carries real risk to life and disability. Please see the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Programs list of known adverse events following this vaccine for further education on it's safety.
Well, I first want to say medical doctors are like mechanics there are good ones and bad. And just like any service industry the consumer has the power of choice. We first need to look at our health care as a business with providers of services. We wouldn't take our vehicle to a company that had a sign up stating "If you don't use Pennzoil in your car we won't see you because your vehicle will contaminate the other vehicles". You see how ridiculous this is? We must be empowered by the knowledge that we are the ones holding the cards and know that MDs actually want our patronage because of billing reimbursement. Without patients doctors offices will close!
This is what I do personally - and my son is fully vaccinated but I don't have any confidence in my local pediatricians. My son is seen by a whole host of specialists that see him for his brain injury and immuno-suppression. I sometimes have to travel 6 hours one way to see one of my son's specialists, but that's okay! I do it once a year and find it vital to keep up the appointments because I've seen great progress in my son's health/well-being. Also these providers do write ups in your child's IEPs. This is vital when advocating for your child's education rights.
When I suspect my son has an ear infection or I just want his general health assessed I take him to a local nurse practitioner. He is great! Nurse practitioners can write scripts if your child has a bacterial infection, they are capable of doing all the things pediatricians do. But I will caution you, remember the mechanic thing, there are good ones and bad, so as in all consumer services, buyer beware.
So who can care for your child's health care needs outside of pediatricians? ANY MEDICAL DOCTOR OR PRACTITIONER. That's right, if they are willing and you find them competent they can care for your child. When I was growing up we never saw a pediatrician. We had a "family doctor" who happened to be an internal medicine MD. She saw me all the way thru my college years, even providing pap smears when the time came.
This is what I find most impressive regarding this new voice from pediatricians. They can't afford to lose patients! Reimbursements costs are falling, overhead is rising along with liability issues. Their business strategy is pure financial suicide. They are hoping probably praying that this bullying approach will persuade patients to comply so they can rake in greater financial rewards, but they are cutting off their noses to spite their face because the public can inform themselves now. We are not going to just roll over because they say so. We are a questioning/informed public. This whole approach I find humorous to watch and don't take very seriously because I see it for what it is, and I hope you now do too.
Here is a quote from a worried physician regarding the current state of their financial situation.
And if that's not bad enough under Obamacare MD's are facing a large 30% cut in pay.
